Description

So, every so often, I manage to randomly "skill up" when drawing or sculpting. Everything I do for a time will be the same quality.... then, all of a sudden, something pretty dang nifty pops up out of nowhere... Woo! I consider this guy my very first noticeable sculpey "skill up" :squee:

Since the polymer clay market is so clogged with dragons, I had decided not to make them a staple of what I make to sell. However, this one came to me in a dream and I couldn't shake him. He is my very first attempt at a polymer clay dragon. In fact the candle, books and scrolls were ALL firsts for me. I'm reasonably happy with how each element turned out both individually and together as a finished piece. The dragon itself is still a tiny bit sloppy for my liking, but I'm hoping that will fade with experience.

His "unofficial" name is Grandaddy Dragon. He was inspired by Dumbledore, Gandalf, both of my grandfathers (both the deceased and the living) and the artistic stylings of Brian Froud. This is why he is made with sculpey III and a tin foil armature... but mostly love. Love I've been excited and proud while creating before but I've never loved a project so much as I loved this guy. I put a bit of silver in his skin color to give him a whimsical sort of glitter, then I scorched him a bit to add a weathered patina to compliment his age. I draped his wings over his shoulders like an old, tired man might do with his favorite blanket at the end of the day and I tried my best to make him studious and wise. I hope the effect is well received. Please tell me what you think! Comments and criticisms are always welcome Nod

lol, nice melted candle- def. adds to that medieval feel; didn't even notice it from that last pic
